Bob Wallace breaks off his engagement to Millie Crest soon after involving her in an embezzlement plan. Millie hurriedly leaves city and presents a carry to Fern Driscoll, who attempts to highjack the auto, triggering it to plunge down a canyon. Fern is killed and Millie assumes her identity, touring on to Los Angeles. There she is contacted by a shady insurance policies investigator, Carl Davis. Davis attempts to get better incriminating letters from Fern/Millie, who is aware practically nothing about them. That night Millie guards herself by stabbing an intruder with an icepick. As the wounded intruder, Davis later contacts Millie, threatening to harm her if she does not make the letters.
In 1991 Tom was looking to sort a new band soon after Lock Up disbanded. Tom was impressed by Zack de la Rocha's freestyle rapping and asked him to join his band. He also drafted drummer Brad Wilk, who he knew from his band Lock Up, the place Wilk unsuccessfully auditioned for a drumming spot. The band's lineup was completed when Zack convinced his childhood friend Tim Commerford to enjoy bass.
